NEW YORK, NY – New York firefighters arrived at the scene of a crash in the Bronx when a garbage truck collided with a wall, pinning the driver, with live wires from a downed telephone on top of the truck.

“We arrived on scene and found the occupant of the garbage truck heavily pinned. We had live wires running on top of the garbage truck which were knocked down from a telephone pole,” FDNY Lieutenant Steven Wetzel said. “During this operation, we had to be extra cautious not only for the safety of the patient but for the safety of the Fire Department members. In order to remove the patient, we had to use our heavy extrication tools and make numerous cuts and lifts, the patient was then handed off to EMS.”

“FDNY EMS Units from Station 14 and Station 26 stabilized the patient and provided excellent patient care both while on scene and while transporting to the hospital,” Wetzel added.

The patient’s condition was not reported at this time.
