Snow Squall Warning Issued for Ocean County, Central and Southern New Jersey

TOMS RIVER, NJ – A dangerous snow squall is expected to hit portions of central New Jersey this afternoon causing whiteout conditions along Interstate 195, the New Jersey Turnpike, and the Garden State Parkway.

The National Weather Service issued a snow squall warning for Central Ocean County, Southeastern Hunterdon County, Mercer County Middlesex County in northern New Jersey, until 2:155 PM EDT.

“At 1:45 PM, a dangerous snow squall was located over Plainsboro Center, or 10 miles northeast of Trenton, moving east at 40 mph.


The NWS says extremely poor visibility in snow and blowing snow with wind gusts greater than 30 mph can occur.

A travel advisory has been issued including the New Jersey Turnpike between exits 8A and 10. Interstate 195 in New Jersey between mile markers 6 and 24. Interstate 295 in New Jersey between mile markers 64 and 74. Garden State Parkway between mile markers 115 and 123. Locations impacted include.

“Reduce your speed and turn on headlights,” the NWS said. “During snow squalls, the visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions. Wet roadways will quickly freeze. Black ice will cause roads, bridges and overpasses to become slick and dangerous. Slow down and be prepared for sudden loss of traction.”
