JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – A Jackson Township woman has been arrested after showing up at police headquarters intoxicated during a child custody exchange.

According to police, on Friday, at around 5:30 pm, the 34-year-old woman showed up for a routine child custody exchange when an officer on duty noticed something wasn’t right.

“[She] was observed in the lobby of police headquarters with a small child for a custody exchange. Sgt. Michael Kelly made observations while speaking with the female that she was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage,” Jackson Police Captain Steven Laskiewicz said.

Police officers then noticed the vehicle she used to get to the station was parked on the curb in front of the department’s headquarters building with the driver’s door open.

“During this time, Police Officer Kevin Chesney observed the female’s vehicle, which she had driven to the scene, was parked at the curb in front of headquarters with the driver’s door left open and open alcoholic containers in plain sight within the vehicle,” Laskiewicz said. “The child was taken into custody for safety and later turned over to a guardian while field sobriety tests were conducted.”

The female was later placed under arrest and processed. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended driver’s license, reckless driving, having open alcoholic containers in a motor vehicle, and 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child.

She was then lodged in the Ocean County Jail. Police did not release the identity of the woman.
