One Dead in Single-Vehicle Crash in Egg Harbor

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ – One man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Ocean Heights Avenue Saturday morning.

According to the Egg Harbor Police Department, on Saturday officers responded to a motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 12:42 am on Ocean Heights Avenue in the area of Leap Street, in the Scullville section of the Township.

“A 2004 Toyota Camry, operated by Jose Costa, 37 years of age from Egg Harbor Township, was traveling Eastbound on Ocean Heights Avenue when he lost control, left the roadway, and struck a pole,” the EHTPD said. “The Scullville and Bargaintown Fire Companies responded and extricated the driver from the vehicle. Mr. Costa sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic on Ocean Heights Avenue was detoured for approximately 5 hours for the investigation and clearing the scene.”


Sergeant Larry Graham, Officer Patrick Daly, and Officer Louis Poletis of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit are investigating this crash.
