Teen Struck in Crossfire During Utica Shootout

UTICA, NY – A 19-year-old was struck while driving his car on Elm Street when he drove through a shootout between two groups of black males, according to the Utica Police Department.

On Saturday, at around 6:26 pm, Utica Police officers responded to the 1500 block of Elm Street, Utica, reporting multiple gunshots fired.

“Arriving police officers found fifteen spent 9mm bullet casings stretching from the 1400 block to the 1500 block of Elm Street,” the Utica Police Department said. “A short time later, police learned that a victim from that shooting had arrived at a local hospital for medical treatment and had sustained a bullet wound to his knee.”


Video footage appeared to show the victim was shot while inside his vehicle, with two groups of black males shooting at each other. The nineteen-year-old victim told police he was driving in his vehicle when caught in the crossfire and struck.

“One of the shooting suspects is described as a black male, wearing dark colored jeans, black puffy style jacket and white sneakers,” the Utica Police Department said. “This suspect then fled on foot northbound on Elm Street. The vehicle driven by the victim had sustained several bullet holes.”
