SYRACUSE, NY – A Syracuse man who sped from police after being apprehended has been labeled a fugitive from the law, and police are searching for him.

On Wednesday, at approximately 12:17 A.M., officers from the Syracuse Police Department and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had affixed stolen license plates.

“Upon making contact with the driver, JaQuan Thornton, 28, of Syracuse, a physical struggle ensued with the Officers.

“During the struggle, the driver was able to break free from the Officers and flee the scene in the vehicle he was stopped in,” Syracuse Police said in a statement. “A Syracuse Police Officer was injured as a result of this interaction, and illegal drugs were dropped by the driver.”

The Onondaga Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of Thornton on multiple gun, assault, and evasion charges.
