After Smashing Cars in Parking Lot, Police Charge Utica Man

UTICA, NEW YORK – The Utica Police Department have apprehended a suspect involved in causing damage to vehicles in parking lot. This incident took place on April 7th after a report came in about someone causing damage to the vehicles. 

According to detectives, “At approximately 2:15AM Utica Police units responded to the rear parking lot of 805 Varick St. for a report of an individual causing damage to vehicles. Upon arrival they located an individual in the area acting in a suspicious manner. 

Other officers located a blue sedan with extensive damage to the windshield, hood, and body. While interviewing the individual, officers located a hammer nearby and through the investigation it was determined that this was the tool used to cause the damage to the vehicle. The party was then detained and brought to the Utica Police Department where an investigator with the Criminal Investigations Division interviewed him, gaining a confession as to how the damage was caused.”


47 year-old Lance Johnson of Utica was charged with Criminal Mischief in the third degree.
