UTICA, NY – The Utica Police Department said that while officers were investigating a shots fired incident early this morning, one officer was assaulted.

“At approximately 2:30AM Officers attempted to conduct a stop of three parties on the 800 block of Park Ave. Upon attempting to interview these parties, one male fled on foot and the other two refused to stop for the officers. The officers again attempted to interview the males regarding their actions when a second party attempted to flee,” the Utica Police Department said. “At that point the officer grabbed the males arm in an effort to prevent his escape, when the male pushed the officer and entered into a fighting stance. This party, Jamare Blanco age 18 of Utica, then began to repeatedly swing at the officer’s head with closed fists, striking him several times. The officer fought back, and as the duration of the altercation went on, the officer determined that the most advantageous tactic would be to deploy his Taser, and did so ending the fight.”

Blanco was then taken into custody and transported to the Utica Police Department. Once there he was charged and released with Appearance Tickets for:
