UTICA, NY – A man was shot two times in the leg overnight in downtown Utica, police have reported.

“At approximately 1:30 AM Utica Police units were dispatched to Devereux St near the intersection at Charlotte St regarding a gunshot victim,” the Utica Police Department said. “Upon arrival officers located a male who had been shot multiple times lying the roadway. The male was transported by the Utica Fire Department to St. Elizabeth’s hospital where it was learned that he had been shot in both legs, however his injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time.”

Once on the scene as well as at the hospital, the officers were faced with large crowds, and mutual aid was requested from several outside agencies to assist.

“We would like to thank these agencies whose personnel arrived immediately to help control the situation,” the department said.
