Syracuse Man Arrested Afer Destructive Crime Spree Shortly After Being Released from Custody

SYRACUSE, NY – A Syracuse man has been arrested after being caught damaging multiple vehicles and buildings in the city.

On Sunday, around noon, Syracuse police officers responded to Joe’s Quick Mart for a larceny complaint. Upon arrival, store employees relayed to officers that a male suspect, later identified as William Kaulback, 32, of Syracuse, had just stolen merchandise from the store and fled the scene.

“A suspect description was broadcasted to police units in the area. Kaulback was quickly located and detained by Officers close by,” the Syracuse Police Department said. “Kaulback was arrested for stealing items from the store and also for a warrant out of the Town of Manlius. During his arrest, Kaulback proceeded to kick a city police vehicle causing damage to the car.”


Police said Kaulback​ was transported to booking, where he also damaged an interior door at the Justice Center. As a result, Kaulback was additionally arrested for criminal mischief for damaging the door at the Justice Center and the police vehicle.

Kaulback was released from the Justice Center after his arraignment.

“After this, Kaulback responded to a residence in the 300 block of Hartson Street, where he proceeded to damage his sister’s vehicle by smashing out the front windshield with a car jack. Kaulback fled the scene after,” the SPD said. “At around 10:38 P.M., Kaulback broke a window at Universal Sales located at 223 Pulaski Street and damaged a motorcycle there, totaling $2K in damage. “

Police said the destructive rampage continued at the following locations.

Kaulback​ damaged windows at Schindler Elevator located at 587 W Bear Street totaling $3K in damage.

From there, Kaulback arrived at Destiny USA and broke out a window totaling $300 in damage.

Kaulback then proceeded to Millenium Auto Brokers located at 500 Hiawatha Blvd E, where he smashed out 45 vehicle windshields and damaged two windows to the business totaling approximately $14K in damage.

“While checking the area, Officers J. Forrester and B. Falise located Kaulback, and he was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. Later, Officers found two more businesses that had their windows damaged by Kaulback, The Gem located at 832 Spencer Street, and Hanger Clinic located at 522 Liberty Street,” police said. “In the end, Kaulback has been arrested again and is now charged with numerous counts of Criminal Mischief in the Second and Third Degrees.”

Kaulback​ was transported to the Justice Center.
