RGV Agents Encounter Four Large Groups Within Several Days

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol (RGV) agents encountered two more large groups in Starr County.  The groups, with a combined number of 337 raise the total number of large group encounters to 10 in the last week.

On April 14, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station (RGC) agents encountered a group of 202 migrants in Roma.  The group consisted of 104 single adults, 61 family members, and 37 unaccompanied children. The migrants were from the Caribbean and various Central and South American countries.

Three hours later, RGC agents encountered another large group of 135 migrants near La Grulla.  The group was comprised of 101 single adults, 31 family members, and 3 unaccompanied minors. They were from Honduras, Nicaragua, Cuba, and Uzbekistan.


RGV agents have encountered more than 30 groups of 100 or more people illegally entering the United States since October 2021.  The total number of large group apprehensions are nearing 5,000.
