Traffic Sop Leads to Nearly Two Pound Cocaine Haul but Driver Escaped

UTICA, NY – A routine traffic stop led to officers hauling in nearly two pounds of cocaine seized during the incident.

According to the Utica Police Department, at approximately 8:30 PM on Friday,Crime Prevention Units were conducting proactive patrols relative to recent gun violence when they attempted to stop a vehicle for moving violations.

“The vehicle immediately refused to comply and led the officers on a vehicle pursuit into the Town of Frankfort up Albany Hill,” police said. “As the pursuit continued, the officers witnessed a black duffel bag be thrown from the vehicle. Due to the nature of the pursuit, it was soon discontinued without the apprehension of the operator.”


As the officers retrieved the bag, they noticed that it contained a large quantity of cocaine and multiple scales. These items were subsequently secured it and brought it back to the Utica Police Department.

Once at the station, it was weighed and found to be in excess of 800 grams. The investigation is ongoing to identify the driver.
