GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – Two police officers were injured while trying to detain a disorderly suspect on Friday.

According to police, at around 8:30 A.M., officers were dispatched to the area of La Cascata townhomes regarding a male subject who threw a bottle at a vehicle as it drove by him. The victim provided GTPD dispatchers with a description of the male suspect, later identified as Robert Allen, Age 36, of Clementon.

“A responding officer located a male matching the suspect’s description walking on Blackwood Clementon Road in the area of the Sunoco Gas Station. The officer attempted to stop the male, however, he refused to heed to the officer’s commands to stop and continued walking away from him,” a police report alleged. “The male then ran into a nearby Sunoco store, and attempted to run behind the cash register area, while refusing to follow the officer’s commands to stop. The officer attempted to take him into custody, however, he began resisting arrest by wrestling with the officer.”

Additional officers arrived on the scene for assistance, but the suspect continued to resist arrest and he was eventually taken into custody.

Police said he was then transported to the Gloucester Township Police Department for processing. As a result of the struggle with the suspect, two officers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
