Two Killed in Voorhees Crash on Route 73

VOORHEES, NJ – Two women were killed in a two-car collision Friday night in Vorhees Township.

According to police, at 8:55 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash in a construction work zone on State Highway Rt. 73 southbound, in the area of Lakeside Kennel.

A report by the Voorhees Police Department said, a 2017 Lexus, operated by a West Berlin, New Jersey resident, John Joyce age 65, and passenger Sharon Hee age 62, of Cherry Hill, New Jersey were traveling Southbound on State Highway Rt.73, when it struck a steamroller operated by an on-scene worker, Richard Gatchell age 53 of Hammonton, New Jersey. Voorhees Police and Voorhees Fire/EMS responded to the scene immediately. Mr. Joyce and Ms. Hee both succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead on-scene by medical personnel.

Mr. Gatchell was transported by ambulance to Cooper Hospital for his injuries and at this time is in stable condition.
