TRENTON, NJ – After a Florida federal judge nullified a federal mask mandate for public transportation, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced the end of masks on buses and trains in the Garden State has come to an end.

“The TSA announced that it’ll no longer enforce a mask mandate in public transportation settings. Masks will no longer be required on New Jersey Transit and by the South Jersey Transportation Authority,” Murphy said. “Individuals may wear a mask based on personal preference, informed by the personal level of risk.”

Amtrak soon followed.

“While Amtrak passengers and employees are no longer required to wear masks while onboard trains or in stations, masks are welcome and remain an important preventative measure against COVID-19,” Amtrak said in a statement. “Anyone needing or choosing to wear one is encouraged to do so.”
