New York Firefighter Killed in Brooklyn Blaze

NEW YORK, NY – New York City is mourning the loss of one of their public service heroes, firefighter Timothy Kevin Klein of the New York City Fire Department. Klein, who served with Ladder Company 170 was critically injured while fighting a fire in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn and died from his injuries.

Klein was one of many firefighters responding to a three-alarm fire at 108-26 Avenue N in Brooklyn Sunday afternoon when the building collapsed around him. Reports from the scene said he was bravely fighting the fire.

Sources say Klein was inside the building on the second floor when it collapsed. Eight other firefighters were reportedly injured.

He was a six-year veteran of the department. The FDNY confirmed Klein is the 1,157th member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty. The last member of the Department to die in the line of duty was Firefighter Jesse Gerhard, who died on February 16, 2022. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Today Mayor Eric Adams and Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh announced the death of Firefighter Timothy Klein, 31, of Ladder Company 170, a six-year veteran of the Department. Firefighter Klein responded to a 3–alarm fire at 108-26 Avenue N in Brooklyn earlier this afternoon and was critically injured in a collapse inside the building while he was bravely fighting the fire.
