Carjacking, Vehicle Thieves Targeting Shore Communities Again

BAY HEAD, NJ – The Bayhead Police Department today warned area residents to make sure their vehicles are locked as vehicles in the area are being targeted by car thieves.

“This message is to advise all residents again to lock their vehicles. So far this weekend’s actors have stolen a vehicle in Mantoloking, Brick township, and attempted theft in Bay Head,” the department said this weekend. “These thefts have occurred in broad daylight. Please do not confront these suspects as they have been known to carry weapons. Call 911 right away if you see and suspicious activity.”

In recent months, car thieves and carjackers from North Jersey’s inner cities have been going “down the shore” to target high-end vehicles to steal. In many cases, those stolen vehicles are used to commit other crimes.

Carjackings and car thefts are up nearly 30% this year across the state and in most cases, the crimes are being committed by actors from the state’s inner cities targeting vehicles in the suburbs.
