CROMWELL, CT – A vehicle that was driving recklessly at a high rate of speed crashed into the Big Green Truck Pizza truck while it was being driven along I-91. The incident happened Saturday and luckily, the entire incident was caught by a trailing vehicle’s dashboard camera.

Police are now seeking to identify the man who crashed into the truck, then fled the scene.

“We need your help identifying him. If you have any information please contact Trooper Bentil #1418 (robert.bentil@ct.gov) at Troop H-Hartford,” the Connecticut State Police said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the guys at Big Green Truck Pizza recover. As of midnight on Tuesday night, $17,000 in donations have been pledged.

“On Saturday, April 23, 2022, an individual driving at high speeds hit one of our trucks which; was then flipped on its side, sliding multiple feet through the highway. By the grace of God, our boys inside are ok and were left with only minor bruises and scratches. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for our truck which is now entirely out of commission,” they said on their GoFundMe page. “After many beautiful messages from our community asking how you can help, we decided to create this page to accept donations to get a new oven made and rebuild our truck back. Unfortunately, insurance will only cover a small amount, and we need close to $250,000 to get the truck back up and running. Not including the loss of business from missing one of our trucks for a spring/summer season. Any little bit helps our family-run business get back on our feet.”

The beloved roadside trucks have become an attraction for residents looking for people looking for brick oven New Haven-style pizza. The 1940s International Harvester trucks are fitted with Italian wood-fired brick ovens.
