SOUTH RIVER, NJ – The South River Police Department has released a series of crime blotter reports for week of April 21-27, 2022. During this time, police responded to 4 fire calls, 25 EMS calls and 5 motor vehicle accidents.

The department’s weekly police blotter highlights noteworthy incidents that occur on a day-to-day basis in order to keep the community informed.

“Please keep in mind that, in the case of any ongoing investigation, we are not able to release certain details and information. In the case of major incidents or investigations, press releases are typically issued at a later date. All charges are merely accusations; those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty,” the department said.


DUI, Prospect Street on 3/21 @ 1229 hours – A male was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence and other motor vehicle infractions. The individual was also found to have multiple outstanding contempt of court arrest warrants. Ptl. Jacob Edelman was the arresting officer.

MOTOR VEHICLE BURGLARY, Pettit Avenue on 3/21 @ 2329 hours – A report was taken for the burglary of two unlocked vehicles. No items were stolen. A male suspect was later identified and charged with burglary. Det. Kenneth Nale was the investigating and arresting detective.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, Prentice Avenue on 3/21 @ 2126 hours – Two reports were taken for juveniles breaking lights at residences. The incidents remain under investigation.

THEFT, Hillside Avenue on 3/23 @ 0842 hours – A report was taken for the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact D/Sgt. Bernard Mackiel at 732-254-9002 ext. 106.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT / ARREST, Burton Avenue on 3/23 @ 1212 hours – Patrol units responded to a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles. One of the drivers fled the scene on foot. Patrol units were able to locate the driver nearby. After being treated by EMS for minor injuries, he was placed under arrest and charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a motor vehicle with an identification number removed, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and multiple motor vehicle infractions. Det. John Kenney was the arresting officer.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY, Veterans Drive on 3/24 @ 2014 hours – Patrol units responded to a residence for a report of two males attempting to break into a residence. The attempt was interrupted by the homeowner at which time the suspects fled the scene. Patrol units canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspects. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Kenneth Nale at 732-254-9002 ext. 123.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT, Main Street on 3/25 @ 1137 hours – A report was taken for a stolen motor vehicle which was left running in front of a business. The vehicle has since been recovered in another jurisdiction. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. John Kenney at 732-254-9002 ext. 109.
