Philadelphia Man Killed When Mercedes Crashed on I-495

The Delaware State Police today reported one person was killed in a single motor-vehicle collision that occurred on I-495 early Saturday morning.

“At approximately 3:57 a.m., a 2016 Mercedes Benz driven by a 35-year-old Philadelphia man was traveling southbound on I-495 south of Philadelphia Pike,” the Delaware State police said. “For unknown reasons, the Mercedes crossed over the partial left shoulder, and the left side of the car struck the guardrail. As a result, the vehicle traveled southwest, crossing the three southbound travel lanes before exiting the road and traveling down the grass embankment and striking the concrete support and a DELDOT pole with the front right corner.”

Police said the car then overturned and came to rest on its roof in the area of East Holly Oak Road.The driver of the Mercedes, a 35-year-old Philadelphia man, was not properly restrained and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
