Suspect Tried to Break Into Home, then Set Victim’s Car on Fire

PITTSBURGH, PA – Police are investigating an incident where a woman who tried to break into a Larimer Avenue home ended up setting fire to the homeowner’s car instead.

Pittsburgh Police and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire were dispatched to the 400 block of Larimer Avenue for reports of a vehicle on fire just after 11 a.m. on Monday.

According to police, responding units spoke with a complainant who told them a woman first attempted to break into her home and then tried to set fire to a car that was parked behind the residence.


“The female suspect then fled the scene in a white Buick. A witness captured the plate number on her cell phone camera,” police said. “Just after 12 p.m. that same day, a Zone 5 officer spotted the suspect vehicle at Hamilton Avenue and Nadir Way and initiated a traffic stop. The registered owner of the vehicle was in the passenger seat. Police brought the victim and the witness to the scene, where the suspect was positively identified.”

Chifawn Jackson, 34, of Pittsburgh was arrested and charged with Arson, Criminal Attempt Trespass, Criminal Attempt Burglary and Criminal Mischief.

Jackson was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
