Second Suspect Charged in Murder of Arnez Kirtley

ROANOKE, VA – Police in Roanoke have arrested Jaytwo T. Shepherd 20, as a second suspect in the February murder of Arnez Kirley. On Tuesday, a Roanoke Grand Jury indicted Shepherd on charges of first-degree murder and the use of a firearm during the commission of a murder.

On February 12th, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Roanoke Police were notified by the city’s 911 center of a person with a gunshot wound in the 1200 block of Jefferson Street. Responding officers located an adult male inside a residence in the area with what appeared to be a critical injury. Roanoke Fire-EMS transported the man to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

“Throughout the course of the investigation, Detectives determined that two suspects were involved in this homicide,” the Roanoke Police Department said in a statement. “Detectives and Officers worked to gather evidence, which indicated that Mr. Shepherd was the other suspect. We began working with the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force to locate Shepherd.”

Local police were notified by officers from the High Point Police Department in North Carolina that they had taken Shepherd into custody. He was extradited back to Roanoke.


Shepherd remains in custody in the Botetourt County Jail.
