Pedestrian Struck in Hit-And-Run in Sparta

SPARTA, NY- A suspect is in custody after a hit and run crash in Sparta sent a pedestrian to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to Sparta Police, On April 28, at approximately 10:01 PM, officers responded to the area of 100 Avon Rd for a reported hit-and-run vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian reported the suspect vehicle intentionally swerved toward him and struck him with the vehicle,” police said. “The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mayo Clinic – Sparta by personal vehicle.”


Investigators learned the suspect vehicle fled the scene but was located a short time later in the City of Tomah.

“The Tomah Police Department arrested the driver, 40 year old Christopher Medina of Elroy, WI. Medina appeared in Monroe County Circuit Court on April 29,” the department said. “He received a $500 cash bond for 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety – Use of a Dangerous Weapon, and felony Hit and Run Causing Injury.”
