Eagle Pass Border Patrol Agents Encounter Three Large Groups Within a Day

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to Del Rio Sector’s Eagle Pass Station apprehended three large groups of migrants, shortly after they illegally entered the United States, in less than 15 hours.

The U.S. Border Patrol categorizes groups of 100 or more as “large groups.” Del Rio Sector accounts for approximately half the large groups encountered by Border Patrol during the current fiscal year.

On May 7, at approximately 3:50 a.m., 126 undocumented migrants were apprehended just after making illegal entry near Normandy. The group consisted of 92 Cubans, four Peruvians, 17 Colombians, six Venezuelans, and seven Nicaraguans. A breakdown indicated the group contained 70 single adult males, 26 single adult females and 10 family units comprised of 30 individuals.

Later that morning, agents encountered 131 undocumented migrants shortly after they illegally entered the United States near Eagle Pass. The group was comprised of 87 Cuban nationals, three Venezuelans, two Colombians, two Costa Ricans, and 37 Nicaraguans. In the group were 45 single adult males, 29 single adult females, and 57 family unit migrants.


Also on May 7, at approximately 18:15 p.m., 132 undocumented migrants were apprehended shortly after illegally entering the United States. Agents arrested 57 Cuban nationals, 11 Venezuelans, 37 Colombians, six Nicaraguans, and 21 Peruvians. The group contained 60 single adult males, 41 single adult females, and 31 individuals from 11 family units.

All individuals were transported to the Eagle Pass Centralized Processing Center and processed in accordance with Customs and Border Protection policies.

Del Rio Sector continues to see an increase in migrant encounters, smuggling events and sex offender apprehensions. During the current fiscal year, beginning Oct. 1, 2021, through March 31, Del Rio Sector agents have encountered 195,289 migrants.
