Son Shoots Mom on Mother’s Day over Over Xbox Controller

Police in Kentucky reported that a Wayne County man is in jail after being arrested for shooting his mother after an argument over an Xbox controller.

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron, a Wayne County man has been arrested after shooting his mother on Mother’s Day.

“At 8:30 pm Deputy Jerry Meadows received a call that a person with a gunshot wound was on the way to the Wayne County Hospital,” police said in a statement. “At approximately the same time Sheriff Catron received a call that the perpetrator was at a nearby neighbor’s residence from the incident waiting for law enforcement. Deputy Meadows was then redirected to the location where the perpetrator was at. Upon his arrival, Deputy Meadows learned that the incident occurred on Grayer Ridge Road in the Susie Community of Wayne County.”

Police said Jacob Small admitted that he had gotten into a verbal dispute with his mother over an Xbox controller that he had given to her as a Mother’s Day gift.


“As the mother and another female were leaving the residence the preparator then fired into the vehicle with a 22-caliber rifle as they were leaving striking the mother,” the department said. “The perpetrator led Deputy Meadows to the location of the incident where the rifle was recovered. The mother was treated at the Wayne County Hospital, then transferred to the University of Kentucky Hospital for further treatment. Her condition is unknown at this time.”


Deputy Meadows charged and arrested 22-year-old Jacob R. Small of Monticello, Ky. for murder-domestic violence, assault-1st degree domestic violence, and criminal mischief-2nd degree.
