Arrest Made in Downtown Cambridge Stabbing

CAMBRIDGE, MD – Police in Cambridge say one man was stabbed inside a business in the downtown area on Monday. According to police at approximately 5:26 pm, officers responded to the 600 block of Race Street in reference to a male subject who entered an establishment with a knife in his hand advising that he had just stabbed someone.

“A description was given and upon arrival, officers searched the area and located a male subject behind a building in the 500 block matching the description given of the suspect,” Cambridge Police said in a statement. “The male subject was identified as Alazar S. Getachew, 24 of Cambridge. Getachew admitted that he did just stab someone, and police located a knife on him during a body search.”

A victim was located nearby with a stab wound to the stomach.


“The victim was transported to the University of Maryland Shock trauma where surgery was performed, and he is listed in stable condition at this time,” police said. “Getachew was arrested and charged with attempted 2nd degree murder, 1st and 2nd-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and dangerous weapon w/ intent to injure.”

It is believed that an argument took place between the two subjects but the victim nor the suspect was very cooperative with giving information on the exact details to the police.
