Carlos Rivera Pleads Guilty in Orange County Murder Case

ORANGE COUNTY, NY – Carlos Rivera has pleaded guilty to the 2019 killing of a 21-year-old college student during a planned home invasion. Rivera pleaded guilty after facing a sentence of life in prison.

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Monday, May 2, 2022, Carlos Rivera, 49, of Newburgh, pled guilty in Orange County Court to all of the counts of the indictment against him, including Murder in the First Degree.  

Rivera’s plea came during the jury selection phase of the trial against him and his co-defendant.  The District Attorney’s Office will continue the prosecution of the co-defendant at trial. 


That co-defendant is Cornelius Stubbs. Stubbs and Rivera entered the apartment and were accomplices in the crime as they shot and killed 21-year-old Chelsea Debidin while she was visiting her boyfriend at the Knox Village Apartment complex in New Windsor.
