ASBURY PARK, NJ – On Tuesday, police arrested 29-year-old Stephon Keys and charged him for attempted murder in connection with a shooting that took place in Asbury Park in February.

Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskeys reported that minutes after midnight on Sunday, February 27, members of the Asbury Park Police Department responded to the Washington Village housing complex on the 1300 block of Washington Avenue on a report of a shooting.

“There they found a single adult male victim, who was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of injuries deemed not to be life-threatening,” Linskey said in a release. “An extensive investigation by members of the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department resulted in Keys being identified as a suspect, and charges against him were filed last week.”

Linskey said Keys was apprehended with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service without incident this morning, and lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) pending a first appearance and detention hearing to take place in Monmouth County Superior Court.
