UTICA, NY – A man who waved and pointed a gun at a driver during an incident of alleged road rage in Utica was captured a short time later after driving east into nearby Little Falls.

According to police, on Sunday at around 3:30 PM Utica officers were dispatched to the area near Broad Street and Oriskany Street regarding a menacing investigation. Information was relayed that as a motorist was driving on Oriskany St they noticed a vehicle behind them driving in an aggressive manner.

“The vehicle then began to cut off other vehicles, and ultimately got in front of the victim. At the next intersection the suspect slowed and pulled up next to victim and began to yell out the window. As he was doing this, he brandished what was described as a black in color pistol and pointed it directly at the victim placing them in fear for their life,” police said. “The suspect continued eastbound on Oriskany St and then onto Route 5s. Upon learning the particulars of suspect and vehicle, a BOLO was issued to surrounding jurisdictions.”

Later in the day, the Little Falls Police Department located the vehicle occupied by a male matching the suspect description. A stop was conducted and the party was detained until members of our department could respond.

“Through the investigation, the suspect was positively identified as the individual who displayed the handgun, and during the course of the search of the vehicle a black airsoft pistol was located within,” police said.

Cody Lewter age 25 of Little Falls was charged with Menacing in the first degree and criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree.
