LAKEWOOD, NJ – The Lakewood Police Department said it will increase security and patrols around the town’s many schools on Wednesday as a precautionary measure in the wake of the attack on an elementary school in Texas on Tuesday.

“In light of the tragic and senseless shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, there will be heightened law enforcement presence at all schools throughout the Township of Lakewood today,” the department said today. “Chief Gregory Meyer, along with our other local, county and state counterparts are dedicated to protecting the safety of our children, teachers and the administrators of our public and private schools. We ask that you keep those affected by this senseless act of violence in your thoughts and prayers and encourage you to report any suspicious activity. We will remain vigilant against any threat to our schools.”
