Camden Murder Suspect Arrested

Camden, NJ- A man has been charged with murder and weapons offenses for the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man in Camden on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.

On Monday, May 23, 2022, Jason Mcallister, 20, of Camden surrendered himself to authorities at approximately 4:50 p.m., and was taken into custody at the Camden County Metro Police

Department Police Administration Building. Mcallister is charged with Murder in the fatal shooting of Luis Vazquez-Garcia on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Mcallister is currently lodged at the Camden County Correctional Facility.

On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at approximately 9:24 p.m., Camden County Metro Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation for shots fired at 721 State Street, Camden. Responding officers arrived on scene and located a male victim, identified as 31-year-old Luis Vazquez-Garcia suffering from apparent gunshot wounds inside of a vehicle. Vazquez-Garcia was transported to Cooper University Hospital by responding units and pronounced deceased at 9:34 p.m., by Dr. Echeverria-Ramos of Cooper University Hospital.


This is an ongoing investigation between the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Camden County Police Department.
