Syracuse, NY – A police chase by Syracuse police officer on Monday ended with a gun charge and more for the driver of the suspected vehicle.

“The Detectives tried stopping the car, but the driver refused, and a brief pursuit ensued. The vehicle fled for several blocks, striking two vehicles, and the pursuit was terminated. Officers remained in the area and eventually relocated the car in the 500 block of Willis Avenue, parked and unoccupied,” the Syracuse Police Department said in a statement. “Residents in the area stated that the driver fled the scene after parking the car and was in possession of a bag and handgun. A search of the area was conducted, and the driver was eventually located behind 1751 W. Genesee Street.”

Police noted during the male’s attempt to evade police on foot, he discarded a firearm that was later located by police.

“The firearm was a loaded, Taurus semi-automatic handgun with multiple rounds inside. In the end, Jones was arrested and booked for his warrants and new charges, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second & Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawfully Fleeing Police,” the department said in a press release, commending the detectives in getting a wanted party and another gun off city streets.
