NANUET, NY – Police officers, firefighters and EMTs provided a demonstration to students of the Nanuet Union Free School District in Clarkstown ahead of prom season.

“A mock DWI accident demonstration was held with the Nanuet Union Free School District , Town of Clarkstown, Clarkstown Police Department, Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps. , and the Nanuet Fire Department for 130 seniors from Nanuet High School,” police said. “After holding a demonstration with the Town and RCDAO last year, members of the Nanuet HS Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse (VAASA) Club suggested holding the demonstraion again due to the invaluable impact of this type of lesson for their peers.”

The effort was a collaboration by the District Attorney’s Office, the agency said.

“Since getting in office, it has been a priority for District Attorney Tom Walsh and his office to address drinking while driving,” the D.A.’s office said. “Over the last couple of years there have been high profile cases involving the deaths of local high school and college-aged students. These important demonstrations show the real outcomes of drinking while driving.”
