Mubdi Gets Life in Prison for 2020 Murder of Derrick Bostick

ROANOKE, VA – The man who shot and killed Derrick Bostick in September of 2020 is going to prison for life after being sentenced on Thursday.

Ahmad H. Mubdi, 53 of Roanoke, was sentenced for his involvement in the September 2020 murder of Derrick Bostick. Mubdi was sentenced to five years for Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, five years for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and life in prison for 1st Degree Murder.

“We commend the actions of the Roanoke Police Department personnel who were involved in this case from the beginning. Their quick actions, dedication and hard work brought justice for a grieving family and held a violent offender responsible for his actions,” the Roanoke Police Department said in a statement after the sentencing. “We also want to thank personnel from our Commonwealth Attorney’s Office who worked with us and our community diligently on this case, leading to this successful outcome.”


According to police, on September 12, 2020 at about 2:00 am, Roanoke officers responded to a report of a person with a gunshot wound in the 700 block of Bridge Street SW. Arriving officers located an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds.

“The man was transported by Roanoke Fire-EMS to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of his wounds,” a police report at that time stated. “An adult female was also transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The female appears to have been injured during a physical altercation involving numerous individuals prior to the male being shot. She was not struck by gunfire.”

Mubdi was taken into custody without incident. Bostick died from his injuries.
