Newark Police Say Crash Caused by Medical Episode

NEWARK, DE – A crash involving an unresponsive driver was caused by a medical incident involving the driver becoming unconscious, which resulted in the crash of the vehicle, the Newark Police Department reported.

“On May 25, 2022, at about 1237 hours, Newark Police responded to the intersection of East Delaware Avenue and Haines Street for a report of a vehicle crash involving an unresponsive driver,” police reported. “Officers arrived to find a very minor property damage collision between the vehicle and a sign post.  EMS personnel from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company were at the scene treating the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.  The driver was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”

The driver was identified as a 57-year-old male from Reading, Massachusetts.
