Farmingville, NY – Police in Suffolk County, along with first responders successfully delivered a baby for a pregnant woman inside a car in Farmingville.

“It was a rewarding morning for Suffolk first responders when they assisted a woman after she delivered her baby in a vehicle on Saturday,” the department said. “

Sixth Precinct Police Officers Carlos Oviedo and Lora Porrini responded to a 911 call of a woman giving birth in her vehicle on South Bicycle Path at Ski Run Lane in Farmingville at approximately 10:40 a.m. The baby girl couldn’t wait and had already entered the world by the time first responders arrived.”

The two officers along with Farmingville Fire Department Chief Dominick Russo and members Tom Dethloff, Norman Neill, Bill Wolf and Phil Erickson went to work to assist the parents and their new baby. They cut the umbilical cord, controlled bleeding and wrapped the baby in a heated blanket.

“Mom and baby were transported to Saint Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson where they are both doing well. Great job to these first responders but especially to the mom,” the department said.
