Suspect in March South Side Slopes Murder Barricades Himself in Home Before Removal by SWAT Team

PITTSBURGH, PA – A SWAT team had to remove a fugitive wanted for murder forcibly after he barricaded himself in his Homewood apartment.

“Pittsburgh Police received information of a homicide suspect inside a Homewood apartment. When Zone 5 officers arrived on the 7300 block of Bennett Street, they were met by a witness who stated the male was still inside,” the Pittsburgh Police Department said.

According to police, SWAT and police department negotiators responded with the male possibly barricade inside. Officers gave multiple command for the male to exit the home with no response.

Shortly after midnight, SWAT made entry, and Zahvair Palmer was taken into custody without incident. Medics evaluated him on the scene.


Palmer had a warrant for his arrest involving the March 19 fatal shooting in South Side Slopes.
