Camden, N.J. (PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT)– A 50-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2018 fatal shooting of a Camden man, announced Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
On June 9, 2022, Jermaine Venable of Clementon was sentenced to life in prison before Camden County Superior Court Judge Gwendolyn Blue.
On February 23, 2022, Venable was found guilty on charges of first-degree Murder, first degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder, second degree Aggravated Assault, second degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Under the same indictment, on February 24, 2022, the jury found Venable guilty of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons and first-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
On July 18, 2018, the defendant shot and killed 18-year-old Jonathan Rojas and injured then 18-year-old Devon Fisher of Glassboro while they were inside a parked vehicle in the area of 4th Street and Kaighn Avenue in Camden. Venable was arrested that same day in the area of 8th and Thurman Streets in Camden.
