LEWES, DE – A missing 71-year-old man was found and rescued by Delaware Fish and Wildlife officers after they were alerted that he went missing while kayaking off of Cape Henlopen State Park.

“Agencies had conducted a search during the previous evening but had not located the subject,” the agency said. “The victim had been missing for 17 hours at this point.”

Once getting the call, the DFW offices sprung into action.

“Immediately upon notification, our officers went underway on patrol vessels. The subject was located within minutes in the Delaware Bay on the rocks of the inner harbor wall off Lewes,” DFW said in a statement. “The victim was transported by our patrol vessel from the rocks to the Lewes boat ramp where he was transported by the Lewes Fire Department to Beebe Hospital to be treated. Great work to all those involved.”
