Police Searching For Alleged Gym Locker Room Wallet Thief

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Police Department is searching for a man caught stealing credit cards from wallets in a gym locker Room and using those cards to make illegal purchases.

Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara said police responded to a report about a theft that occurred around 3 p.m. at Blink Fitness, located on Ferry Street in the Ironbound section of the city.

“The suspect was captured on surveillance video walking into the men’s locker room, then leaving to enter Snipes, a shoe store in the 100 block of Market Street and Footlocker, also located in the 100 block of Market Street, and Newark Best Cellular in the same block.” O’Hara said. “The suspect used the victim’s bank cards in all three businesses to purchase numerous items.”

Director O’Hara urges anyone with information about the suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
