Developer Proposes to Build 550 Multi-family Units at Peddler’s Village Site

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ – During the 1980s, it was the epitome of outlet shopping. Peddler’s Village, located at the Atlantic Avenue Circle was one of the premier shopping destinations at the Jersey Shore. The property has recently been purchased by Avalon Bay Communuties, Inc.

Peddler’s Village has fallen into disrepair and has become a sad blemish at the Jersey Shore. Once a destination, it’s now derelict and vacant.

The new plan to build 550 apartments is a far cry from a plan the township announced in May that called for 350 units, an open courtyard, and retail space. That plan called for pools, parks, and indoor and outdoor meeting spaces that promote social interactions and community engagement.

Shortly after than plan was announced, owner John P. Shibes, of Sea Girt sold the property to Avalon Bay, national property management and residential property development firm. The sale comes after years of bickering between township officials, environmentalists and residents over the future of the site.
