Cape May Man Arrested for Fleeing Fatal Hit and Run Crash

CAPE MAY, NJ – A Cape May County man was arrested and charged after fleeing the scene of a fatal crash he caused on Monday, June 20th.

According to Middle Township police, at 9:20 pm that night, officers responding to an unrelated call for service noticed several vehicles stopped in the area of Route 9 and State Highway 147. 

“An investigation revealed a pedestrian was crossing the intersection of Route 9 and State Highway 147 in the crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene,” the department said in a statement. “The pedestrian, Richard Geere, age 59 of Burleigh, New Jersey was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The accused vehicle continued to flee the scene until it crashed in the area of the 200 block of Indian Trail Road.  The driver of the vehicle then fled the crash on foot.”


Later, the driver, Glenn Dunleavy of Del Haven, was located and arrested. The investigation revealed Dunleavy was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when he made contact with the pedestrian
