Syracuse Police Foot Chase Ends with Gun Charge

SYRACUSE, NY – A suspect wanted for a previous shooting in Syracuse was chased down by police, who recovered a gun and made an arrest.

“On Sunday, at around 8:00 P.M., Syracuse police officers M. Dixon and J. Harriman observed a wanted person, Stephon Bachus, 24, in the 300 block of Seymour Street. Bachus was wanted for his previous involvement in a shots fired incident.

“Officers planned and coordinated an arrest of Bachus. When Officers approached Bachus, he fled on foot, retreating to the backyard of a residence close by. After a few moments, Officer Blazey, who was also on the scene, was able to locate and take Bachus into custody. After, Officers retraced the foot chase route, which revealed a dismantled Glock 19, Gen 5, 9mm handgun, along with a loaded extended magazine,” the department said. “In the end, for this incident, Bachus​ was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.”


According to police, Bachus was additionally arrested and charged for his involvement in the previous shots fired call that made him a wanted person. Those charges were for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree.
