Suspected Arrested for Sunday Road Rage Double Shooting, Murder of Off-Duty Cop

Blawnox , PA – A 40-year-old Pittsburgh man has been arrested for a double shooting that left one person dead on Sunday. The victim was an off-duty Oakdale police officer.

Today, the Allegheny County Police has identified 40-year-old Kevin McSwiggen, of Pittsburgh, as the person responsible, charging him with one count of criminal homicide and two counts of recklessly endangering another person.

Police said McSwiggen was provoked by road rage and followed rookie police officer Chuckie Stipetich, 23, to his parent’s home in Blawnox before confronting him and shooting him. Stipetich was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.


According to police, on Sunday, at 10:35 p.m., Allegheny County 9-1-1 received a report of a shooting in the 400 block of Fountain Street.

“Officers and paramedics responded to the area and found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. The males were taken to area hospitals in critical condition. One of the males was pronounced deceased while at the hospital, the second male was taken into surgery for a gunshot wound to the torso,” ACPD said. “Blawnox Police requested the investigative assistance of the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit. Detectives responded to the scene and learned an altercation occurred in the street between the two males which resulted in the shooting.”

The deceased male was employed as a police officer for the Borough of Oakdale and was off duty at the time of the incident. At the conclusion of the investigation detectives will consult with the District Attorney’s Office for a charging decision.
