NYC Fighting Against the Subway Unmaskers Two Years Later

Jessica Woods

NEW YORK CITY, NY – Did you know face masks are still required in New York City on all subway trains, at train stations, on busses and all forms of mass transit, including indoor stations? Well, it seems as the COVID-19 pandemic wanes, many New Yorkers are unmasking on public transportation and now a new sign has popped up.

A sign on the Q Train shows a masked character giving the middle finger, telling the unmasked to stop being selfish jersey.

According to the MTA, as of July 2nd, masks are still required at indoor train stations and on board subways, commuter rail, buses, and paratransit vehicles.

“You do not have to wear a mask at outdoor train stations and platforms, or at bus stops. You must wear a mask once you board a train, bus or paratransit vehicle,” the MTA said.

It is not known if the sign was an official MTA sign or put up by an individual or group.
