17-Year-Old Girl Shot in Newark, Shooter in Custody

NEWARK, NJ – A 49-year-old Newark man has been arrested for the shooting that took place early Friday morning of a 17-year-old girl.

“At approximately 1 a.m., police responded to a residence in the 200 block of 9th Street on a call of a shooting. Responding officers located a 17-year-old female victim who had been shot by a suspect she knows,” police said. “The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.”

Interim Newark Public Safety Director Raul Malave announced the arrest of Marvin Williams, 49, of Newark, in connection with an aggravated assault shooting that occurred today.


Williams, identified as a suspect in this incident, was found to possess ammunition and was arrested at the location without incident.

“Police also recovered a firearm in the area. He faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of prohibited weapons (hollow point ammunition), and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession,” Malave continued.
