NEWARK, NJ – Newark Police arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with a drive-by shooting two weeks ago in Newark. He is also facing charges of resisting arrest and receiving stolen property. Police said they were alerted by the city’s ShotSpotter gunshot detection system and arrived on the scene at around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

When officers arrived at the corner bodega, they found nine people had been injured in a drive-by shooting on the 200 block of Clinton Place.

The ages of the victims ranged from 17-68, police said in a press conference last Monday.

The shooters were driving a Honda Pilot that was reported stolen out of Jersey City and later switched vehicles to a BMW stolen in the Bronx on Wednesday. Both vehicles were later found in the city of Newark.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said the shooting is not gang related, citing the incident was a result of a personal dispute. Baraka told Newark residents despite the sharp increase in shootings, residents should feel safe in the city.
