Armed Robbery Suspects Target Lottery Machines with Sledgehammers in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA – You have to be in it to win it.  That’s a popular slogan for lotteries across America, but for four criminals in Philadelphia, all they needed was a sledgehammer and a plan.

On Tuesday, at 2:05 AM, three unknown males approached the Sunoco gas station located at 3200 Richmond Street.

One suspect stayed at the front entrance door as a lookup while two others entered the business. Inside, one suspect motioned to the cashier inside the cashier’s booth simulating as if he had a weapon in his waist area, then ordered the employee to put his hands in the air.

“They proceeded to strike the lottery play machines with sledgehammers,” police said. “The offenders removed the cash boxes from the machines then fled back to a newer model white Ford Escape that was parked in the rear of the store occupied with a 4th male in the driver seat.”

The offenders fled the location after loading the cash boxes in the rear of the vehicle.
