UTICA, NY – A dirt bike rider who was pinned beneath a car during a collision in Utica has died, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said, at approximately 10:10 PM on Sunday, Utica Police and Utica Fire units were dispatched near the intersection of Eagle St and West St regarding a serious motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle and an off road dirt bike.

“Upon arrival the units located the male operator of the dirt bike pinned beneath the car. He was immediately transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, and both UFD and hospital staff performed all life saving measures possible, however tragically the male succumbed to his injuries at the hospital,” police said. “The Utica Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team was called back to investigate the crash, and their investigation will be on-going to determine the events of the incident.”

Police said although tragic, the department says people should not ride unregistered off-road vehicles on city streets.

“We recognize that with the warmer weather people are going to seek out forms of outdoor recreation, however incidents such as this highlight the need for responsible activities,” police said. “Operating unauthorized motorized equipment on city streets is against the law and extremely dangerous to the operators and the general public as a whole. Sadly, incidents such as these prove how dangerous that operation may be.”
