Police Investigate Man After Spent Bullet Casing Found in Car

UTICA, NY – Police arrested Jamal Richardson, 31, after an investigation into a shots fired incident in Utica Friday night. According to police, At approximately 11:30 PM, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of City St regarding a shots fired investigation.

“Upon arrival they were met by several parties who directed them towards spent .380 caliber shell casings in the driveway of the residence on the block,” the department said. “Upon inspecting the casings they noticed a vehicle parked in the driveway with a male standing beside it. As they were speaking with the party, GIVE investigators noticed numerous spent and live rounds inside the vehicle.”

Police also said located an area of the vehicle that looked as if rounds had been fired from within the vehicle, outward toward the street.

Richardson admitted that the vehicle was his and at that point was detained and brought to headquarters.


“The vehicle was towed to the Utica Police Department and later searched. Upon the completion of the search, the casings and cartridges were located, as well as a loaded .380 caliber handgun beneath the driver seat,” police said.
